Kirsten White, living the dream in Far North Queensland spending her time island hopping & handmaking sustainable swim for her brand Seven Seas Swim.
In one sentence, who are you?
Hey Hey, my name is Kirsten. I am an ocean loving bikini addict living in Tropical North Queensland.
You own a stunning, sustainable swim label, what inspired you to start Seven Seas Swim?
My sister and I would compete in collecting Seafolly bikinis growing up so my love for swimwear started young, from this it was always my dream to have my own line. In 2017 I decided to just go for it!
What inspires you?
So many things inspire me! My surroundings, nature, the ocean, my family & friends. The list goes on. If I feel like I'm in a bit of a fog, a day at the Islands will always clear my mind and bring me ideas.
You hand make all your swimwear, what has been your favourite piece to create so far?
This is such a hard question to answer because it changes all the time. At the moment I'm sewing all the stock for my new collection coming in August and I’m in love with all of it!
Every summer has a story, how do you spend your summers?
Summers in Far North Queensland consist of avoiding the ocean because of jellyfish haha! We still make the most of the good weather any chance we get and spend our days Island hopping.
How have you gotten to where you are now & what advice do you have for other girls wanting to build their own business?
Practice, trial & error and persistence. Owning a business can be really hard, I’d say to have clear goals/ visions and go for it! If you get knocked down, stand back up! It's all a part of it.
What does the future for Seven Seas Swim looks like?
I'm currently expanding into clothing to go alongside my swimwear, my goal is for Seven Seas to be more like a surf brand rather than just swimwear! So many epic pieces are in the works!
Tell us about a time you were proud of yourself?
I was recently featured in British Vogue which has been a really amazing experience. It still doesn't quite feel real that I sew bikinis from my home office and was recognised by Vogue. It's just wild!
Your favourite Malakai piece?
I love so many pieces but my favourite would have to be the Honu Lagoon Bracelet, Kula Kabana Bracelet & the Lahana Sea Necklace.
