Aimee Bell | GIRLS TRIP

Aimee Bell | GIRLS TRIP

Aimee Bell born in Perth, has been creating gorgeous content up and down the coast of WA with her boyfriend Carter. After meeting him in Ibiza and sharing a mutual love for photography and travel they have decided to make something beautiful out of it.

In one sentence, who are you?

I am a 5’2 gal with a 6’4 attitude. Kidding I am Aimee, a nature loving, animal loving, adventure loving, introverted gal who is on a mission to live a life I am completely fulfilled in.

What inspires you?

The quote ‘don’t get so caught up making a living that you forget to make a life.’ People who do what they love and travel inspire me. It’s so easy to get caught up in the routine of life so travelling and being in a new place with a new routine is very exciting to me. Nothing inspires me quite like a place I've never been before!

I couldn't wait any longer to ask this, how do you find the most beautiful Airbnb's?

Honestly through hours and hours of looking hahaha. My obsession started before I even started taking instagram seriously. I would think of every destination I wanted to go to and save lists of Airbnbs as inspiration and places I could go in the future. In terms of Perth Airbnbs, I would just look for secluded ones or ones near a beach with a view! Not too much technique to it!

Who inspires you?

I honestly think it’s a mixture of all my friends, my partner Carter and my mum. My friends are all so different personality wise so I get different bits of inspiration from them. My mum raised my brother and I on her own so I definitely feel that her ‘strength’ shaped me as a person and taught me to be independent. Carter has inspired me to change my views on the world, happiness, money and freedom. Before I met him, I was very scared of taking risks or trusting the process, I wanted to control every aspect of my life and I didn’t like just going with the flow. He taught me that money will always return, it’s better to be happy and have a life doing what you love and the money will come. Just because you did a degree in something, doesn’t mean you have to stick to it. Just because you have been conditioned to go to uni, get a degree, get a job, work your way up, get married, have kids and retire – doesn't mean you have to if it doesn’t feel right for you. I always felt like I did what was ‘expected’ of me in societies eyes because I didn’t know any better, so Carter definitely pushed me to try something new and I am so grateful for that!

Every summer has a story. How do you spend your summers?

Summers by the beach! Growing up in Western Australia, I always knew we had nice beaches but I didn’t realise how nice they actually were until I started travelling more and realised nothing compared. Summers are for beach getaways, cocktails, sunsets, bonfires, road trips, boat trips, sunrises, looking for dolphins and snorkelling!

What has been your favourite travel destination so far?

Well we had plans to go to tropical north Queensland but covid cancelled that... but regardless, I think it will always be Western Australia! Exmouth/ Coral Bay are honestly so beautiful and its crazy how ‘unknown’ WA is to people in other countries... it’s always Sydney or Melbourne they go to! The beaches in Esperance are also out of this world, can't believe how blue that water is.

What place is on the top of your bucket list?

I really can’t pick... can I say Europe as a whole? Bit of a story but I didn’t start travelling properly overseas until I was 23. It took me longer than most because I was in a plane accident (QF72) in 2008 when I was nearly 13. The plane basically ‘fell’ out of the sky and there was zero gravity with people being pinned to the roof and breaking bones. I was terrified of flying and I was also in a very emotionally abusive and controlling relationship. I finally got out of it and thought I should bite the bullet and go to Europe to enjoy my life again, which obviously ignited my travel bug. I definitely think Europe holds a special place in my heart because of this... it was the first place I went after I overcame my fear, got out of an awful relationship and finally felt like myself again. Apart from Europe, definitely Africa, the Maldives, Hawaii, Bali and the Phillipines.

Number 1 travel essential?

Probably a portable phone charger haha, the anxiety I get thinking about being in a foreign place, not knowing the language and not having a charged phone... nightmare material.

What is your favourite Malakai piece?

The surfboard art! I think that’s actually how I found Malakai in my explore page... so beautiful.
